Kaoru Kawano (Japanese 1916 - 1965) Unframed horizontal colored woodcut (or woodblock) of a child reaching for grapes or fruit of some kind. Printed (with mica) on coarse and fibrous Japanese handmade paper with no watermark. Signed with a red seal in the lower right of the image. Also signed in pencil directly below the red seal - but the pencil signature is only visible in a raking sidelight. This particular signature characteristic seems to be common with Kawano and one can only assume he felt the signature detracted from the image.
