The Emperor Murakami ordered Minamoto Yorimitsu to rid the country of the atrocious monster Shuten -doji who had built a stronghold in the mountains which came to be known as Devil's Mountain. Here, we see the severed head of the monster attacking Yorimitsu. Published by Tsuta-ya Jusaburo Will H. Edmunds, Subjects of Chinese and Japanese Art, pp.581-2.
