Thursday, 29 November 2007 Tamami Shima is considered one of the Sosaku hanga masters, and a notable Japanese woman artist. This print is from 1959 - a great era for modern Japanese woodblocks, and this one is no exception. It depicts fish and a bowl in an abstract manner. It measures 10 ? in x 15 in image and 12 in x 17 ? in sheet. It is signed in pencil in the lower right and dated and numbered 1959, 66/100 in the lower left. It is in excellent condition except for a light crease in the lower right corner visible in my photo of the signature. The colors are very strong and the image is crisp.
