Catalog note / 解説

"Oujyou-in" Semi-abstract depiction of Oujyou-in Temple in Mt. Sensho in Kyoto. It belongs to Jodo sect and was built in 1647. Toshijiro was a famous kimono designer. He received the highest honor as artist, "Ningen Kokuho" (Intangible Cultural Property, so-called Living National Treasures), from Japanese government in 1962. He designed only handful woodblock prints in the 1950s.
