Sunday, 11 July 2010 Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print Visiting Kiyomizu Temple, 1856 Series; Twelve Months of Genji Visiting Kiyomizu Temple, 1856 - Beautiful triptych of Prince Genji and several beauties visiting Kiyomizu Temple, enjoying a stroll around the grounds. The prince crouches next to a palanquin at left, shielding his eyes with a fan as he watches a bird swoop across the sky above. In the center, a woman holds an umbrella overhead as a young attendant follows behind. The women are elegantly dressed in sumptuously patterned kimono, the white collars and trim embossed with a textured pattern. The wide verandah of the temple can be seen at left,…
