Tuesday, 16 November 2010 Original Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892) Japanese Woodblock Print Gojo Bridge, 1881 Comments - Terrific original Yoshitoshi illustration of the great battle on Gojo Bridge between the warrior monk, Benkei, and the young Ushiwakamaru, the childhood name of the noted swordsman Yoshitsune. The agile young warrior leaps into the air above the bridge railing at right, reaching for his sword as he easily dodge's Benkei's blows. Benkei grips a pole arm with both hands as he lunges forward, stepping on the white cloak that Ushiwakamaru has just slipped out of.
