Crab Temple - Azuma Nishiki Chuya Kurabe
Catalog note / 解説
"Azuma Nishiki Chuya Kurabe" (Edo Embroidery Pictures, Comparison of the Day and the Night). Kaniman-ji (Crab Temple). The father of a religious girl saw a snake swallowing a frog. He told the snake that if it let the frog go, it could marry his daughter. The snake released the frog and disappeared. One night, the snake emerged as a man to claim the girl. She was terrified. She recited her Kannon-scroll. Hundreds of crabs (she had rescued a crab before) appeared from nowhere and killed the snake. Later, the villagers built a temple to honor the crabs. .
